Suppose after experimenting with the tuning D-A-D-G-A-D you find a number of interesting chord shapes. Now, you want to find some normal chords (majors, minors etc.) to accompany these experimental chords. Finding the desired chords using GAFF is easy. Simply use the Dynamic Fretboard Mapper to create a fretboard figure where the tuning is D-A-D-G-A-D and the intervals used are the intervals of the chord. Because the intervals are shown in different colors, you can easily look at the fretboard figure and identify the locations on the neck where the chord can be played. To see what I mean, take a look at take a look at this
fretboard figure. It shows
an A-major chord mapped onto a fretboard in D-A-D-G-A-D tuning. To
play an A-major chord in this tuning, all you need to do is find
a location on the neck where all three intervals (colors) of
the A-major chord can be played at once. Looking at the
figure, I can see the following possibilities (there are
others...).
